Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin was involved in a scary incident on Monday in the team’s Week 17 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.

With 5:58 remaining in the first quarter, Hamlin made a tackle on Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins. Hamlin appeared to get up from the tackle unscathed but he took a few steps back and collapsed onto the field.

Some Bills players could be seen crying as Hamlin was tended to by medical personnel. Other players held hands praying or hugged each other.

Hamlin fell to the ground at about 8:55 p.m. ESPN cut from the broadcast from the field and went to a studio about 9:08 p.m.

Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott and Cincinnati head coach Zac Taylor spoke to officials and each team was initially given five minutes to warm up. The game was instead temporarily suspended at 9:17 p.m.

According to multiple reports, medical personnel were giving Hamlin CPR. He eventually put into the back of an ambulance and carried to the hospital.

The game was temporarily suspended and players went back into the locker room.

The injury he sustained wasn’t immediately clear.

Hamlin was given CPR on the field, the Monday Night Football broadcast reported. He was eventually placed on a stretcher and given oxygen as he was taken off in an ambulance to a local hospital, CBS Sports reported.

According to a statement from the league, Hamlin is in critical condition at a local hospital.

Players were seen crying as Hamlin was on the field for more than 15 minutes. After being temporarily suspended, the game was officially suspended for the night.

“Our thoughts are with Damar and the Buffalo Bills,” the NFL said. “We will provide more information as it becomes available.”

On Twitter, the Steelers and Pitt football and Central Catholic football said they are praying for Hamlin and his family.
